Panhellenic Association sororities highly value academic achievement. Chapters provide academic support and encouragement to their members on a consistent basis. Sorority women at the University
of Maryland have a higher average GPA than non-Greek women. In fact, one in ten Greeks has a 4.0 GPA! Click here to see the list of sorority members earning a 4.0 GPA for the fall 2009 and/or spring 2010 semesters.
Many sorority women serve as teaching assistants, lab assistants, work in academic departments, or are involved in pre-law, pre-med, or business societies. The entire Greek community and individual chapters reward and recognize women who achieve academic success. Most chapters have study rooms in their facilities and offer academic programming such as tutoring, study groups, scholarship banquets, and faculty dinners.
“Last semester, our house manager held a session on how to write a resume which helped me to get my internship this past winter break!”

“Every week at chapter, sisters receive ‘smart cookies’ as rewards for getting good grades—it feels so good to see my sisters be proud of me for working as hard as I do”
--Chapter Member, Alpha Chi Omega
