Informal Recruitment

Informal Recruitment takes place in the Fall semester and is an unstructured form of recruitment.

Each chapter has individual recruitment parties and you may attend as many or as few as you would like. You may choose which parties to attend, but we recommend trying to visit as many different recruitment parties as you can. Chapters understand there are many parties occurring at the same time and are not upset if you need to leave early or come late; the women expect for you to only stay part of the time.

In order to accept a bid, or invitation to join a sorority, you must have 12 credits and a 2.5 GPA. Even if you do not meet these requirements, we encourage you to still attend open houses. This is a great way to meet women in different chapters and get a first look into sorority life at Maryland.

Chapters may extend a bid at any time inviting you to become a member of their sorority. It is possible to receive bids from more than one chapter at different times. Do not feel as if you need to accept the bid right away. Each sorority has a different length of time in which you are able to hold your bid without accepting it, which they will mention when they extend the bid.

If you have any questions about Informal Recruitment, please contact Carrie Coxen, Vice President of Recruitment, at umdrecruitment@gmail.com. We thank you for your interest and look forward to meeting you.
